200 years after his birth, what does Bruckner have to do with us musically and personally? Perhaps much more than we would expect at first glance when we engage with THE Upper Austrian in the global Champions League of composers. The bridges necessary for this were built in a variety of ways by the OÖ KulturEXPO Anton Bruckner 2024 education team under the direction of Lydia Zachbauer and made available to a wide range of target groups. The starting point for this was a pool of ideas developed by a task force of cultural and music mediators from a wide range of cultural institutions in the state.
As part of the OÖ KulturEXPO, teachers were supported in their lessons on Bruckner with new teaching materials, worksheets and a digital lesson that opened a new chapter in teaching about Anton Bruckner. Crash courses introduced the topic not only to teachers but also to numerous interested parties who would like to teach Bruckner themselves. At Bruckner Hoch 3, school classes not only received two visits from mobile educators, the school classes also went on a journey of discovery to Bruckner locations in Upper Austria.
The P.S. Bruckner singing and playing booklets are aimed at musicians from hobby level to professional musicians and have inspired numerous Upper Austrian arrangers to create new compositions based on Anton Bruckner. Formats such as Bruckner Goes Wirtshaus, the Super Culture Family Sundays at the exhibition in St. Florian and Toni On Tour as part of the Upper Austrian Children’s University were aimed at children and families in the private sphere. The Bruckner Pixi book was primarily aimed at the 3 to 6-year-old age group. Copies were sent free of charge to all Upper Austrian kindergartens and libraries and are available to private individuals in various museum shops.
The various formats were not only created for the year 2024, but are intended to inform, inspire and keep the subject of Bruckner alive in the long term.
Teaching materials, music examples, the digital music lesson and workshops will be continued in cooperation with the Education Group in the Anton Bruckner Learning World. Publications such as P.S.Bruckner and the Pixi book are also still available.
