Anton Bruckner: eine HerStory
Für Theresia. Reprise - Konzert mit Lesung
Für Theresia. Reprise - Konzert mit Lesung
This project focuses on women who played a role in Anton Bruckner's life. There are many stories and myths about his life, his relationship with women and their influence on his works.
However, "For Theresia" is a project that does not attempt to address these relationships. It is about making these women visible and getting an idea of who they were and how they lived. This exploration uses old portraits and biographies to question the role of women in society then and now. At the same time, it provides a new, fresh perspective on the life and work of the artist Anton Bruckner. The title of the project links the importance of women to his art and refers to his mother Theresia Bruckner, who was an important female constant in his life.
The exhibition
The exhibition consists of 10 portrait panels which, on one side, show oversized carte de visite portraits of the women who came into contact with Bruckner and his work and who were his companions for longer or shorter periods of time. The reverse of each panel offers an insight into the individual biographies, which have been compiled for the first time in this form through painstaking research. In some cases, fragments of text from personal correspondence or from articles in the daily newspapers of the time are also quoted. The combination of portrait and biography is intended to draw attention to these women and their lives and enable readers to immerse themselves in this period.
The portrait and text pages of the panels have different QR codes, which can be used to read the texts in English or listen to excerpts of Anton Bruckner's music on a smartphone.
Reprise / September 15, 2024, 4 p.m. - Concert with reading
On this day, the texts of the portrait panels will take center stage. In a concert lasting around an hour, the text fragments will be combined with music by Anton Bruckner. Texts about the selected ten women from Anton Bruckner's life will alternate with vocal music (fragments) by the jubilarian. Elena Pierini is responsible for the musical realization with the ensemble that came together for my project "Die Darstellerin" 2022. This ensemble consists of: Elena Pierini, director of the opera choir at the Landestheater Linz Linz with the opera singers: Antoanetta Mineva, Wilemijn Spierenburg, Jovana Rogulja and Mary Osborne.
