The evening presents two very different cinematic approaches to the artistic personality of Anton Bruckner

The misunderstood genius is a documentary that allows numerous interpreters of Bruckner's music to have their say.
The feature film "Anton Bruckner's Decision" is about his decision to give up his position as cathedral organist in his familiar Linz in order to work as a professor at the conservatory and court organist in Vienna.
In both films, a lot of space is given to Bruckner's original music.

The Misunderstood Genius is also offered as a performance for students in the morning.

A reminder of the 'organ hike' at the time and an opportunity to retrace this path.
In the spring of 1869, Anton Bruckner undertook a triumphant concert tour to France.
In July of the same year, an excursion took place with friends from Kirchdorf and Schlierbach, during which Bruckner played the monastery organ.
Alois Spannesberger, then secretary and later choirmaster of the Kirchdorfer Liedertafel:
"I am an enthusiastic music lover, have heard many fine things in Vienna, Linz and Salzburg etc., including many a good organist. But I will never forget this divine hour that Bruckner gave us with his sublime playing for the rest of my life."
The concert at the music school will feature original compositions by Bruckner and his contemporaries, as well as paraphrases and jazz improvisations on Bruckner themes.

'From Anton Bruckner's music cabinet'

Anton Bruckner became acquainted with the music of composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel at an early age. His knowledge of the masterpieces of his predecessors, including of course the Viennese classics and Franz Schubert, later helped him to develop his skills as a composer and improviser.
A concert with music that Bruckner probably also heard..... followed by wine and cider, which he also appreciated!

Anton Bruckner has also repeatedly served as a role model in the visual arts: there are painted portraits, photographs, caricatures and statutes for which Bruckner was the model. The composer and his musical world will also serve as a model for our students during the anniversary year. The results of this work can be seen in this year's Advent calendar.
