Windhaag near Freistadt

A student of Bruckner, Joseph Jobst was also a country violinist and dance bandleader and a famous son of the community of Windhaag near Freistadt. The members of the Jobst Orchestra come from the regional music school of Freistadt and, as in the old days, they invite you to dance. Sheet music from Bruckner's estate, compiled by Volker Derschmidt, who will also be playing himself, will be played. Folk dance groups are also invited to participate in this evening of dance. The evening will be opened by brass bands.

At the age of 17 when Bruckner himself was not that much older than the pupils, he was sent to Windhaag in the Bohemian Forest as a trained school assistant where he was able to enjoy as yet unknown freedoms. He did, however, also have to fulfill and perform a wide range of tasks and services which involved some hardship on his part.
An information space in the old school, which is only semi-public but open at the top, is a reminder of this. This was Bruckner's workplace in Windhaag, which, at the instigation of the owner, Irmgard Quass, is now a Bruckner place of learning and remembrance in one. The exhibition room is to be redesigned by Anton Bruckner 2024.

Both the young and the old are invited to accompany the young school assistant on his route - first to the church, then back to his home, to the old school, to the vicarage, out into the field and finally to the friendly Jobst and Sücka families.

In the idyllic market square of Windhaag near Freistadt and around the garden of the Green Belt Centre, around 90 exhibitors will  present their own handicraft work of leather, glass, wood, fabric, stone and much more.
