Anton Bruckner's birthday is also on the minds of the pupils at Anton Bruckner Middle School in Windhaag. They have been working diligently on projects and works of art all year. The results of their work can be viewed at the Anton Bruckner School on June 29 and 30 from 08:00 to 12:00 and from June 28 to July 3 during school hours.

Helene, Helga and Werner Traxler grew up in the Bruckner community of Windhaag near Freistadt. They have taken different paths and are meeting up again this year on the 200th anniversary of his birth in their home community. Helene Traxler works as a media designer and freelance visual artist in Linz. Helga Traxler has lived and worked as a freelance photographer in New York for twelve years. Werner Traxler has been cooking in his own restaurant "Muto" in Linz since 2015.

Anton Bruckner experienced the pilgrimage to Maria Schnee in Bohemia as a 17-year-old school assistant in 1842. The pilgrimage cross was in the old school (perhaps he even carried it...). After the opening of the border, the pilgrimage starts again and celebrates 35 years this year. This time there will be music by Anton Bruckner in the forest near Oppolz and at 11.30 a.m. the highlight will be the Windhaag Mass, which he composed in 1842, in the Maria Schnee pilgrimage church.

The pilgrimage starts at 7:20 am in Mairspindt and leads directly to the neighboring Czech Republic. Do not forget your passport

Joseph Jobst was a student of Bruckner, a country violinist and dance bandleader and a famous son of the community of Windhaag near Freistadt. The Jobst Orchestra is formed from the Freistadt State Music School and, as in the old days, invites you to dance. Sheet music from his estate, compiled by Volker Derschmidt, who will also be playing himself, will be played. Folk dance groups are also invited to take part in this dance evening. The evening will be opened by brass bands.

At the age of 17, Bruckner was not that much older than the students and was sent to Windhaag in the Bohemian Forest as a trained school assistant, where he enjoyed hitherto unknown freedoms - but also had to fulfill and perform a wide range of tasks and services, which were associated with privations.
An information room in the old school, which is only semi-public but open to the public, is a reminder of this. This is Bruckner's workplace in Windhaag, which, at the instigation of owner Irmgard Quass, is now a Bruckner place of learning and remembrance in one, and whose exhibition room is to be redesigned by Anton Bruckner in 2024.
