On New Year's Day 2024, the world-famous New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra can be experienced in the beautiful Sala Terrena of St. Florian Abbey.

With BrucknAIR, the music of Anton Bruckner is to be transmitted from the festival halls in St. Florian to the public space and made accessible to a broad public.
Experience a live sound broadcast of the Bruckner Orchester Linz conducted by Markus Poschner with Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 in C minor on the market square in St. Florian.

Nowhere is it possible to immerse yourself in Anton Bruckner's life as directly as in Ansfelden and St. Florian. The symphony trail, which has been popular for almost thirty years, connects the places of his childhood - through the forest, over the hills, on paths that Bruckner also walked. A new mediation concept expands the sensory experience with the help of excitingly designed stations, playful approaches for young hikers, in-depth and remarkable, digital and analog - and lots of music.

Gemeinde Ansfelden & Gemeinde St. Florian

Both talking to each other and of course Bruckner himself help bring people together. Norbert Trawöger, the artistic director of the Bruckner Year, holds parlour talks on site about Bruckner, his music, God, the world and the age we live in.
He invites guests from the local communities to take part and brings along experts and surprise guests. You can expect to hear all kinds of things about Bruckner! Come and talk to us!

Upper Austria KulturEXPO Anton Bruckner 2024

The installation combines organ playing and an ensemble of converted playground equipment to create a collective musical instrument in public space. By rocking and seesawing together, different organ pipes are operated - a sound space unfolds on the organ playground that makes Anton Bruckner audible and tangible in both an abstract and playful way.
The installation and composition will be developed in a processual manner over the coming months and will be set up in various locations with a Bruckner-connection in 2024.

Upper Austria KulturEXPO Anton Bruckner 2024

The inhabitants of the 72 Brucknerstreets, alleys, paths and squares throughout Upper Austria receive a visit. From David Wagner, who travels the famous destinations by cargo bike, completely unmotorized. Not without the sheet music of the nine Bruckner symphonies in his luggage. And not without his helmet camera, which he needs to record the encounters with the people at his destinations on video.
For these are asked for audio donations of 15-second motifs from the 9 Bruckner symphonies - from which David Wagner then creates a 9-minute film with Bruckner's 9 symphonies in the interpretation of a more or less random cross-section of the Upper Austrian population. Plus another cinematic 9-minute film documenting his 24 outings. One as well as the other can be seen in the fall of 2024.

The fact that you can pull art like chewing gum, condoms, drinks, snacks and tobacco out of a vending machine is no longer entirely new. In contrast to the art vending machine, which its inventor Helene Huemer has equipped with all kinds of sculptures, medals, scrolls and comics in the Bruckner style.
Now it is going on tour throughout Upper Austria - and demands to be filled again and again by people eager to create.

The collegiate basilica of St. Florian is inscribed with a Bruckner aura that cannot be found in any other place in the world. Therefore, performances of Bruckner's music in this magnificent church space become an event in themselves. In St. Florian, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Markus Poschner also devote themselves decidedly to the later symphonies, which seem to be particularly aware of a transcendent mystery.

When one thinks of Anton Bruckner, one thinks of his masses and symphonies from the second half of his life. However, for his long personal and artistic development up to these top performances, the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of St. Florian was of decisive importance. He spent a total of 13 formative years, first as a choirboy, later as a teacher and monastery organist, in an environment characterized by an enlightened Catholicism open to the sciences and social life. There, in a "place of the world", the young village teacher's son searched tenaciously and also conflictively for his identity as an artist.

The archive of the monastery contains a large number of documents that shed light on this decisive phase of life with all its opportunities and risks. They are now comprehensively shown for the first time in an exhibition, commented on and medially conveyed with audio stations and a docufictional film. The old Bruckner literature has left us with a mined field of prejudices and misinterpretations. There was talk of the "mystical Dammer" of the monastery. The subject of "Bruckner and St. Florian" now becomes vivid in a new way.
