Nach dem frühen Tod des Vaters am 7. Juni 1837 Unterbringung im nahen Stift Sankt Florian bis 1840. Aufnahme als Sängerknabe. Fortgesetzter Gesangs-, Violin- und Orgelunterricht, letzterer mit Schwerpunkt Improvisation. 1845 Rückkehr nach Sankt Florian als Lehrer und Stiftsorganist bis 1855. Erste große Kompositionen wie Missa solemnis in b-Moll und Requiem. Am 15. Oktober 1896 Beisetzung in der Stiftsbasilika.

After the early death of his father on June 7, 1837, he stayed in the nearby monastery of Sankt Florian until 1840, when he was accepted as a choirboy. Continued singing, violin and organ lessons, the latter with emphasis on improvisation. 1845 Return to Sankt Florian as teacher and monastery organist until 1855. First major compositions such as Missa solemnis in B-flat minor and Requiem. On October 15, 1896 burial in the collegiate basilica.
